Liberty Social Hour – Le Bel Été

Located minutes away from the chaotic streets of the downtown core, Liberty Village is an emerging community just west of downtown for businesses and residents. CityEvents and InLibertyVillage.com hosted one of many Liberty Social Hour events which enable locals to meet and mingle with each other. Locus 144, located in The Liberty Market, held a successful community networking event showcasing their unique dinner menu and spirits lists. The ambience of Locus144 is very soothing, a great place to unwind and submerge yourself into the warm and cozy colour pallets of the decor. Lights were dimmed to perfection and the music just loud enough so people could still talk. Locus also invited a local classic/pop singer to add some flavour to the already vibrant event and Lucia (singer) sang for a set before the D.J took over playing into the late hours on a beautiful summer evening. Source

GenNext and The United Way

GenNext is a group committed to encouraging and increasing volunteer awareness of the United Way and their initiatives. They aim to help people in their 20’s and 30’s get more involved in the community. Just like last year, the event was hosted at the beautifully rustic Kultura. The red brick walls and yellow cast birch bark veneer tree trunks made a wonderful backdrops to meeting new people and hearing about new campaigns and ‘good causes’.

Getting into the FastLane

Getting involved is an easy as simply showing up at the door.  Last night that meant battling the inclement weather, but most people I know believe that springtime is the perfect time to get engaged and give back to the community. Most people want to get more involved, but they simply don’t know what to do or where to go. This event was a great reminder about the importance of our collective participation and involvement in charity and the program even suggested some outreach programs not represented at the venue.  At Fastlane however people are generally happy and ready to contribute. In this environment they get to have a couple of drinks, mingle and chat with other interesting people , and help society. It’s a great package, and the goodie bag filled with deals is always a nice bonus.

I wanted to thank everyone for joining us last night and making the event a success. We all got to meet someone new and learn about exciting initiatives. Another huge thank you goes out to the Gatherings and CityEvents team for making this event a success. Planning a wonderful event is always easy when working with a dedicated and talented team. Last years ‘FastLane in the Community’ was such a success that we were inspired to partner with Kultura and United Way’s GenNext and they have partnered with us again for 2011. Kultura will once again host FastLane in the Community; you can absorb the rustic appeal of Kultura throughout this unique networking experience. Another one of our community partners is the Junior League of Toronto, an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism.

Come check out the opportunities these organizations have available to you, after all experience is everything; you can take all of the skills you learn throughout your time volunteering and apply them to achieving your career goals. GenNext’s mandate is to encourage Torontonians in their 20s and 30s to become involved with the United Way Toronto through both giving and volunteering. The group is committed to raising awareness and supporting the work of United Way and its partners by developing and participating in volunteer and fundraising events.

After hearing such rave reviews at February’s FastLane we are bringing back the ever popular Speed Networking sessions- a service that was introduced to Toronto by FastLane. Participants have seven minutes to begin a business relationship with each other, thus creating an opportunity to leverage each others’ success.

What is FastLane about:

FastLane is a great place to meet people in different industries across Toronto. The energetic and lively mood of the event is great if you are looking to make a connection with someone in the same industry or exploring others out there. The event had it all: great food, great music, friendly bartenders, speed networking and knowledgeable vendors. At first there was some hesitation about the location being in a gym, but it was actually inspirational. I have fallen out of my 4 times a week gym routine, and being in the atmosphere reminded me of how much healthier I feel when I work out. It is so important to take care of yourself from the inside out.

So, what did I learn last night?

The incredible feeling of putting on a successful event—when working with a team of such enthusiastic, fun-loving event planners it’s not as difficult as it sounds! I also learned simple steps to improve my health and beauty. And lastly, I got to meet some wonderful people and make a ton of connections. Make sure to stay tuned for our next FastLane.
