The deaf-blind community is a unique community of individuals with this dual disability. CFPDP aims to help change the way Canadians think about physical disabilities. For this, the CHKC and awards were launched. CHKC is Canada’s first training facility dedicated solely to deaf-blind persons. Programs include necessary everyday skills such as home organization, grooming, personal finance, computer skills, communication skills like sign-language and braille and many more.

On Friday, April 27, the 14th annual luncheon will be held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. This year, CHKC will honour the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM). The award will be accepted by Josh Basseches, Director & CEO, ROM and the guest speaker will be Josh Saunders.

On Thursday, May 11tth, the Spirit of York Distillery Co. will open to the public offering their unique bottles of vodka and gin premium spirits. The small batches are being created using fresh spring water in stainless steel tanks using only locally-sourced ingredients.

The space is perfect for events. There is a large bar featured as the room’s centerpiece, with a three-tiered hydroponic fresh herb garden directly above it as well as a wall of botanicals and dried herbs used to infuse their spirits. A specialty bitters bar is ideal for interactive demonstrations, mixology training, innovation, and education for others who are as passionate about spirits as Spirit of York Co. is.

There are also other rooms perfect for private dining and Team building here is a unique idea for your team.

The space fits up to 150 people and has maintained the historic features of brick and beam from the original roots of Toronto’s distillery hub. Like many historic spaces, the venue has achieved a great mix of old and modern, with the lighting design and layout being a key feature. The Spirit of York Co. has brought back the art of distilling to the historic Distillery District with this contemporary ‘Spirits Hub’.

The Spirit of York will be exclusively available at their new location. But, keep your watch for their concoctions in the LCBO in the future. Perhaps at specialty cocktail bars, we can hope…

ScienceROCKS at the Ontario Science Centre:

If you are up to hands-on interactive zones and objects from music history visit “The Science of Rock ’N’ Roll” where art and science in music converge. Learn how advances in science and technology have revolutionized music, starting from the way we make, listen, and experience and share music.

By walking through the exhibition you will experience the history and evolution of rock from the 1950s to the present day with all sorts of memorabilia and early instruments. You will also learn how we perceive sounds and how they are produced. It is explained how our brains are affected by rock music and you can discover the differences between mono vs. other stereo and create your own riff on a ‘reactable,’ an interactive music-making table.

Why not entering a recording booth and showing your Rock `N` Roll expertise playing an electric guitar?

And it’s not just about the musicians! All the numerous careers in the music industry both on and off stage are also highlighted. A great feature at the end of the exhibition is a Concert Experience in a virtual live concert setting you can re-live.

The Science of Rock ‘N’ Roll runs until October 26, 2014.
