The building was designed in 1922 by architect John M. Lyle, who is also credited with designing Toronto’s Union Station and The Royal Alexandra Theatre. There is a lot of history in The Thornton-Smith Building; Aperture Room was designed to keep that history, as well as the history of Yonge Street in mind. Despite all of the renovations, this building has stayed true to its award-winning original architecture.
