The Grand Opening for Southport’s Toronto location took place on Tuesday June 9. This is their second location which just opened in the Castlefield Design District in Toronto. Their first location in Vaughan is their main showroom.  They have many products including lounging, seasonal and dining collections,  a large selection of fire pits and tables, umbrellas and barbeques.

Guests arrived early showing up around 5 pm and everyone got the chance to view Southport’s beautifully designed patio furniture and accessories. People seemed to particularly like the Louvre Daybed with Canopy which was actually very comfortable. The store was perfectly laid out to display each product and the event was able to showcase the modern and stylish patio furniture while celebrating the company’s newest addition.

There was plenty of food for everyone. All night the chef was outside grilling up burgers, chicken and sausages for the attendees to enjoy. Inside there was also a grazing area with chips and popcorn that as donated by the Neal Brothers as well as homemade lobster dip (my personal favourite) from MartimeLobster.ca.

The event also had give-aways! Included in the give-aways were:

  • 2 Weber barbeques courtesy of Southport
  • A lobster dinner for 4 delivered to your house donated by Maritime Lobster
  • A Starbucks gift bag that included coffee, a French press and a mug
  • A basket FULL of many different products from Neal Brothers like pretzels and popcorn

Even though it was raining, people made their way to the design district to attend the grand opening and overall it was a success. Some people walked away with prizes but everyone had a great time.

outdoor movie

Are all of you film-lovers ready ? This season’s outdoor movies in Toronto has started!

Well, when I say “about to start”, I mean not right now ! Although last year’s films were announced pretty early on, this year’s organizers seem to want to wait a little more and keep us in the dark. After a tiring search on the Internet (on the plus side, with a hot chocolate because of the weather), I could only find two organizations that are willing to share their schedule for the months to come.

We have that going for us, which is nice!

Christie Pits Film Festival starts on the 5th of July at sundown for his opening night with a title quite promising : “A Toronto Symphony of Horror”.

Three films will be shown to a terrified public (or not, we’ll see). First up is Nosferatu, directed by F. W. Murnau. What’s special about this projection, it will be featured by a live-score performance and original composition by Del Bel. What a treat!

The other two films of the night will be : Wakening, directed by Danis Goulet and Silent Garden, directed by Dylan Reibling. I can tell you this night is going to be legendary!

Stay tuned!

Hi Everyone! I am back with more dates for this summer’s outdoor movie frenzie! This time, it is Open Roof Festival’s turn to announce all the films that will be scheduled for their 6th season. And I can tell you that the selection is quite interesting!

Let’s begin with the first film that will be shown on opening night, which will be the incredible Kurt Cobain : Montage of Heck on June 17. This chef-d’oeuvre will set the mood for the upcoming movies of this summer! But before each film, a band will come up on stage and perform their original songs just for you! Isn’t that wonderful news?

On Wednesday morning we coordinated an event with Hogg, Shain & Scheck and helped them organize and promote their Managing for Growth Seminar. The guest speakers for the day were CEO John Wilson from CEO Global Network and Phil Kirby, CEO and founder of Organization Thoughtware International Inc. The seminar was very informative and we enjoyed being a part of it. Our first speaker for the day was John Wilson who spoke about how great CEOs are made. He has coached a number of top-earning CEOs and has learned some valuable information in the process which he shared with the guests. Among the advice he gave, what stuck with us is when he discussed the importance of networking and being connected. I know in any industry (not only event planning) in order to have a successful business, you need to be able to maintain relationships with people you meet. John Wilson has actually written a book on this subject called Great CEOs and How They Are Made. The book has been highly acclaimed and is definitely worth checking out, attendees of the seminar all received a copy.

Phil Kirby was our “headliner” and he did not disappoint. His talk kept the audience engaged and the material was useful to people in all industries. He helped put a spotlight on the relationships between processes and how to solve production issues at the source by being on sight and being able to see the process for yourself.

Screen shot 2015-06-09 at 10.13.11 AMThe event was held at the Delta Toronto East in Scarborough, only a few minutes away from Hogg, Shain & Scheck. The hotel was much larger than I had initially anticipated. Delta provided a very hospitable environment and provided a full breakfast that included a number of different pastries, yogurt and LOTS of coffee (very important).

Screen shot 2015-06-09 at 10.15.56 AMOverall, the event was a success and everything went off without a hitch. Thank you again to the sponsors Ted Rogers School of Management and CEO Global Network. Also we would like to give a special thank you to our speakers John Wilson and Phil Kirby. Stay tuned because Hogg, Shain & Scheck have more really interesting events coming up so make sure you visit their website for more details. On October 27th, Brian Beaulieau will be back for his annual economic update.

Let’s talk about SCHMOOZE!

The sun was out, the drinks were cold and there was plenty of vodka to go around thanks to the event sponsor, Belvedere Vodka. Thank you to everyone who came out to the kickoff party for this summer’s SCHMOOZE at Maison Mercer.

schmooze event 2

I arrived just before 5 pm, and there was already a lineup of people waiting to get inside! Once we were in, it was so nice. The Maison staff had set up all of the booths and the staff was all very pleasant and accommodating. As soon as it started it was pretty busy but after an hour there were so many people! It was great to see some familiar faces and so many new ones too.schmooze event 1

The food, courtesy of Treeline Catering was unreal. I saw mini burgers and chicken skewers, which were delicious. People were lingering around the BBQ and it seemed just as the guy was done preparing the food, it was gone so I’m glad everyone enjoyed it!schmooze event 3

The sun came out just in time for SCHMOOZE and people seemed to enjoy being able to relax after a long week of working. It must have been a long week judging by the amount of jagerbombs I saw being passed around! Maison’s patio is the best spot for a warm evening and the DJ was playing some classic summer tunes to really kick off patio season in Toronto.

My staff was able to snap a few pictures before it got dark. Check out the link below and see if you can spot yourself in any of them! And if you weren’t able to make it this time, don’t worry. SCHMOOZE is happening each and every Friday until the end of summer on Maison’s rooftop patio. However, if you want to see me and Shanny in the City (which I know you do) we’ll be there again June 26! Same deal as last time. We’ll be having drink specials (who can pass up $4 drinks??) and a complimentary BBQ before 630 pm. We’re so happy everyone came out and we can’t wait to see you again in June!
