Boxcar Social : the new trendy Coffee & Wine Bar

Just steps away from the train bridge and old station is a two storey home that has been converted into Boxcar Social. A couple of friends got together as young entrepreneurs and decided to make a not so ordinary coffee shop. The staff pays serious attention to their coffee and as per the name, the guys working at Boxcar Social are all extremely friendly, enthusiastic and talkative.
The soon anticipated liquor license will allow for the wine, craft beers, bourbon and scotch to be pulled out and enjoyed at night.
The concept behind Boxcar Social is:
“Do what we love, do it with our friends, and do it really well. Offering a curated, rotating list of coffees from the best roasters in North America, a careful selection of some of the world’s top new-world wines, and interesting craft beers, scotches and bourbons – we strive to create the most unique tasting experience for our customers. And we enjoy every minute of it.”
To differentiate themselves they have a Coffee Club which allows you to receive either Coffee Beans, Espresso Beans or both Espresso and Coffee Beans shipped to your home twice a month for a monthly fee.
Pop in to taste the quality of the coffee, chat with friendly staff, even treat yourself to a chuckle at their witty messages on the outdoor chalkboard and newly added deck patio just in time for summer.
Hours of operation until receiving liquor license are Monday to Saturday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm and Sunday from 8:00 am – 3:00 pm.
When liquor license received the new hours will be Monday to Thursday 8:00 am – 12:00 am, Friday and Saturday 8:00 am – 2:00 am, and Sunday 8:00 am – 3:00 pm.

Green Lotus Presents The Donate & Learn Online Marketing Expo
On the 10th of June, Green Lotus was hosting the Donate & Learn Marketing Expo from 5:00 to 8:30 pm. at Ryerson University. The event was an opportunity to unite with 600 of Toronto’s best entrepreneurs, business owners and online marketing expert to gain innovative search engine and social media marketing programs for your business!
The CityEvents team attended the Facebook workshop animated by Brian McNeil-Smith from EasyPromos. For an hour we discussed contests and promotions on facebook and how we could manage them with a low budget. When you are a small business, he advised to create a contest over a longer time frame. Regarding Brian McNeil-Smith, “Strategy is only limited to imagination”.
At 7pm, the main event began with a presentation from Procter and Gamble, LinkedIn and Green Lotus. What matters the most when you are a brand is to tell your brand a story and have a BIG Idea. What is a BIG idea? For Maria Shibaeva, Sr. Assistant Brand Manager at Procter and Gamble it has to be true in your business and also should be :
– disruptive to the market
– heart and mind opening
– immediately understood
– recognizable
– easy to execute
Here is an example : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2V-20Qe4M8Y
This year, Green Lotus worked with Enactus Ryerson and Project Pathways.

Find the hottest spots to cool off this summer

With the weather warming up, the beautiful breeze in the air, the sun staying up a lot longer, summer isn’t the only season around the corner; it’s also patio season. Just in time for this season blogTO’s Patio Guide app ‘The Toronto Patio Guide.’ If you haven’t already downloaded it, we highly recommend you do.
The Toronto Patio Guide app is dedicated to helping you find the perfect patio for whatever your evening has in store. Feel like staying close to home tonight; use the ‘Patios Near Me’ option. It will tell you your distance from the patio and even suggest a route to get there.
In the mood to explore a new part of the city; this app has the options of being divided in specific neighbourhoods and for those feeling a bit adventurous there is always the “Feeling Lucky” option. Shake the app and it will suggest a patio you might like.
You are also able to pick the date and time to see restaurant daily specials. If the temperature is a bit cooler or it looks like it might rain, there is a solution for that. Use advanced search options to display patios that are heated and covered. The advanced search can also help sort between rooftop, backyard, sidewalk, and courtyard.
Lastly you are able to sort patios by beers! You are able to search for patios with pints for 5$ or under. Users are able to scroll through which beers restaurants have on draft.
Once you have finally picked your perfect patio, easily share the patio information using the apps share option through Twitter, Facebook, SMS or email. Keep track of your favourite patios by saving them to your blogTO profile. It’s as simple as clicking the heart symbol and it will be stored so you don’t need to remember the name of it.
The Toronto Patio Guide app is available for both iPhone and Android. If you live in the city or are just here for a visit this app is perfect for patio patrolling. Become a pro at patio hopping and impressive your friends with your knowledge of all the hottest spots to cool off are!
