Escape to Artscape

Could Wychwood Barns, located at 601 Christie Street, be the venue for your next event? To answer that question it is important to know a few more details about the location itself.

Artscape Wychwood Barns is a community cultural hub where a dynamic mix of arts, culture, food security, urban agriculture, environmental and other community activities and initiatives come together to provide a new lease on life for a century-old former streetcar repair facility. This multi-faceted complex is home to: 26 artist live/work spaces, programming and administrative facilities for 14 not-for-profit organizations, indoor and outdoor growing areas, a community-run gallery and a 7,680 square foot Covered Street used for farmers and art markets, conferences and events that can fit up to 1000 people.

Since opening in November 2008, Artscape Wychwood Barns has become one of Toronto’s most unique event venues. The building’s soaring ceilings, exposed brick walls, abundant natural light and architectural detailing create a dramatic backdrop for fundraisers and gala events, meetings and conferences, weddings and celebrations, exhibitions and product launches, festivals and community events.

Next time you are in need of a venue location for a visual arts exhibition, performance or meeting check out Wychwood Barns.

The Redpath Toronto Waterfront Festival is an annual festival celebrating Toronto’s waterfront, presented by the Waterfront Business Improvement Area (BIA). It is a is a unique festival that provides on water and on land programming, while positioning and promoting Toronto locally, nationally and internationally as a waterfront destination.

This years celebration took place June 21 through 24, 2012, down on Queen’s Quay. It included Saltscapes and the provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and a celebration of the East Coast lifestyle. There was also The Wharf at York, with interactive folklore performances.  Sweet Smokin’ Suga’ Beach Jam, a folk and blues music showcase and beach BBQ.

This year’s Redpath Waterfront Festival brought music, art, culture and cuisine to a variety of waterfront locations.  There were people visiting from all over the Canada and performances from all types of musicians, public private and even students from a nearby school for girls here in Toronto.

Headlining the event was ‘Saltscapes’ a celebration of east coast culture at HTO Park East.  At Harbour Quay, the area was transported into an interactive old port settlement called ‘The Wharf at York’ with sail makers, weavers, musicians and more. Sugar Beach had live music, a beach barbeque and a unique lightshow where they transformed a fountain display into a nighttime multimedia water theatre.

Overall the event was great, great food, great music and a great celebration of Toronto’s waterfront.

Don’t Be Square – Check Out CUBE

Cube Nightclub is a newly designed restaurant and bar located by Queen St. and Spadina Ave. in the Entertainment District area of Downtown Toronto. This dance bar and nightclub spot features bottle service, dancing, DJ in a casual atmosphere.  Cube presents itself as a mature nightclub for the 25-plus.

Although it is known as a nightclub it can also be rented out for corporate events or lavish parties. Cube boasts a state-of-the-art D&B sound system and a 12-by-6-foot LED wall.

Cube’s retro aesthetic is thanks to Alessandro Munge of Munge Leung. Custom-made bronze shelving behind the 50-foot polished black bar is matched by bronze beams and lighting fixtures throughout. Curved vintage yellow-green booths are spread all over space for ample seating and lounging. Floating above the room and along the back walls, there’s a “film-strip” mural made from the spliced segments of old 70’s porn for an appropriately cubist bit of racy, retro fetishism.

The 3,500-square-foot fully renovated rooftop patio opened May 30, 2012. This fully renovated nightclub would be great to book your next event, especially the patio that can be rented out all summer long.
