22nd Canadian Disability Hall of Fame

For the last few years, CityEvents had the pleasure of assisting The Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons (CFPDP) in the planning of the annual Disability Hall fo Fame.  The awards ceremony honours outstanding Canadians who make a difference for people with physical disabilities.

The 22nd induction ceremony would be held at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, in the Concert Hall on October 30, 2015. Toronto- the Disability Hall of Fame honours this year’s inductees- celebrated equestrian Lauren Barwick, CBC’s Rick Mercer, and famed Counsel Bernard Gluckstein.

The event will start with a reception, where people would come in to register, by dropping off their business card and would have a chance to enter the lucky draw.  People will have the chance to talk, socialise and reconnect.  Galen Weston, Jr., Loblaw’s Executive Chairman and President, will serve as the guest speaker.

Hall of Famers

Lauren Barwick is a top ranked equestrian. She is representing Canada at the international level for more than 12 years. She has won gold and silver medals at the 2008 Paralympics, finishing in the top Six in both the 2010 FEI World Equestrian and 2012 Paralympic Games. Recently, she received Canada’s only medals, a silver and bronze, at the 2014 AllTech FEI World Games and has also added Para-Dressage to her accomplishments. But most importantly, Lauren gives back to the sport 100 percent, giving clinics, attending fundraisers, and tirelessly training youth as a Parelli 4 star instructor.

Bernard Gluckstein is a celebrated personal injury lawyer and King Clancy Award winner. He has worked tirelessly to advance the causes of the disabled, particularly those with brain injuries. His firm, Gluckstein lawyers, has sponsored numerous events for the Ontario Brain Injury Association, of which he is a founding director. In addition, he has combined his love of photography with his desire to support the Paralympics by becoming an accredited photographer, since 1981, a remarkable record, which has continued through the 2012 London Summer Paralympics.

Rick Mercer is arguably Canada’s best loved political satirist. He is not only an Officer of the Order of Canada but also a King Clancy Award winner from the Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons. He has been working tirelessly in his promotion of Paralympic athletes, taking it on as a special mission to bring their abilities to Canadians’ attention. He has trained with them, played with them, broadcast their victories, even having split his nose open training with visually impaired simmer Donovan Tildesley. All that Rick does is in the name of his deep love for his country and his people- but he does it with humour that makes him deeply loved in return by millions of Canadians.
