A Place to Taste, Learn & Meet

Are you looking for somewhere to host your holiday party or private function? Want to impress your guests? The iYellow Wine Cave is the most unique venue in the heart of downtown Toronto.

The iYellow Wine Cave opened it’s doors in November 2013 and acts as the iYellow Club House. Currently it is the place where we teach all of our iYellow Wine School Classes and also host visiting Winemakers from all around the world.

iYellow Wine Club was born out of the idea to taste, learn and meet with friends. There were two original founders Ange & Pax who created wine home videos about tasting wine, wine tastings etc. They took people to wine country on bus tours and hosted wine parties. Now years later the club is a place for all who drink and love wine to gather and connect. Wine is magic that can make you rich, that can make you confident, and can be one of the main stays of your life (if you believe there are 5 main things in life: eating, drinking, sleeping, working, playing).

They are a social club of 10,000+ members who taste, learn and meet together and have been doing it since 2006. As a member you will get invited to an exclusive VIP experience in the iYellow Wine Cave, get wine bottles signed by talented Winemakers, and join to taste 100’s of wines from all over the world! Along the way you’ll build your wine confidence, meet new friends and over time become a real wine expert.

The awesome team of iYellow Wine Ambassadors help to build and keep this community running with over 100 classes, tours and events a year and we do it all so that our members have a place to taste, learn and meet together. Maybe you should earn your wine diploma at iYellow Wine School or join for a tour to Prince Edward County, Niagara and even Tuscany!

The iYellow Wine Cave is located steps away from Osgoode subway station on Queen Street West. It has the a back alley way entrance, reminding you of something you might find in Brooklyn New York, the trendiness of downtown Toronto’s Queen West, with the charm of a rustic European wine bar. This underground wine cave venue is an incredible and inviting space, one which you find anywhere else in Toronto – if not the world. When you step inside, there is a feeling of wine country love balanced with an exciting city spirit. The energy is very special and it’s uniqueness is undeniable, plus, there is always lots of wine!

Graven Feather
A unique space for unique art, Graven Feather
Written by: Nicole Giroli

Established in 2011 and run by local artists Erin Candela and Pam Lobb, Graven Feather is an art space located in the heart of Queen West next to the Trinity Bellwoods Park. This place is for both artists and the art-loving public to display their art. Graven Feather includes workshops, retail, and gallery space. The Graven Feather is becoming Torontos networking hangout for artists in the community to share their work, and also learn from others.graven feathe pic

Art
Graven Feather bases upon building a relationship with artists and the community. Graven Feather is not only a gallery space, but it also offers a venue to host events and community oriented events. Graven Feather’s studio is an open and accessible destination dedicated to fostering creative output and artistic exchange. They’ve displayed sketches of Dave Sheppard, the oil paintings of Kari Minchin, and of course the work of the gallery owners, and others. Graven Feather posts weekly, and monthly events, and artists coming to the gallery to display their art.

Workshops
Ask yourself when the last time was that you had a craft night. The Artist Residency Program is part of their initiative to widen the community and share artistic experiences. In addition to using Graven Feather as a studio to create your work, they invite you to participate in their studio/gallery/workshop space. Graven Feather has many workshops to offer, such as letterpress cards, linocut, framing and oil painting. You will gain the experience and learn something new.

Atmosphere
The Graven Feather is a unique space that can offer 300 square feet of bright, beautiful, and affordable exhibition space. It is also a bright and cheery environment. . This brightly lit and warm space is serves double-duty as a gallery and studio space. Given the small space, Graven Feather is spacious with it’s open concept, all-white minimal decor and bright lighting. This place is inviting and pleasant rather than your typical dark dungeon like art gallery.pic 2

Twist Your Event into Something New, with Twist Gallery!

Twist+Gallery+2013

Since Twist opened back in February of 2010, Nadia, the young and dynamic owner and director of Twist Gallery has watched her space blossom into one of Queen West’s prime locations for art shows and events. She says her favourite part about her job is meeting new people, and the rush she gets in anticipation of what tomorrow will bring.

Nadia also says that coming up with a name for her gallery was surprisingly one of the harder things she has ever had to do. People gave her all kinds of suggestions, but she did not want to settle for just anything. Like all things in life, coming up with the name “Twist” took time. It came to her out of nowhere, and she knew it was right.

The primary use of Twist Gallery’s space is for Art Exhibitions, but it is available for rent for special events outside of gallery hours.

She believes in the importance of meeting new people, and feels comfortable in any social setting. It is this same sense of ease and relaxedness that she trusts her visitors will appreciate upon entering her gallery. Instead of feeling intimidated and uninvited like some places, she wants her guests to feel welcomed and at home.

An ideal spot for fashion shows, corporate functions and photo shoots, Twist also offers a great alternative space for a wedding reception.
The Gallery can accommodate approximately 250 guests for a standing reception, and 160 seated.
Twist Gallery transcends the stereotypical idea of an art gallery and is a space where anybody can walk in and feel comfortable.
Whether an art enthusiast or someone who knows little of art, the space gives a sense of ease and relaxedness to guests.

Barsa Restaurant

Taste of heaven in a Spanish inspired tapas, Barsa Restaurant

Written By:Mercedes Lamoca

Come out with your friends and family and enjoy the new beautiful Restaurant called Barsa. It’s an amazing Spanish inspired tapas restaurant, located on Market Street directly beside the historic St. Lawrence Market. At Barsa we tried a wide range of all different kinds of foods from all over the world also tying in the vibrant Barcelona-inspired atmosphere.

Food

Executive Chef Michael G. Smith allows for the guests to taste, discover and share. The menu has a global feeling to reflect all of the diverse cultures in Toronto. The chef uses the finest local and global seasonal ingredients for his unique menu items.  Some of the top dishes that Chef Michael and his crew put together include the Sea Bream Ceviche with pecans, Tiger milk, avocado mousse and foie; and Sangria cakes with coconut tres leche, compressed fruit and mango sorbet.  We tried one of their special sangria drinks, they have  a variety and we recommend them both for winter and summer. Barsa’s philosophy of evolving modern small plates combine worldly flavors with International techniques to deliver a diverse menu guaranteed to satisfy any palate. Come try for yourself and be in “aww”

Atmosphere

Screen Shot 2015-01-14 at 11.48.45 AM

The atmosphere is very interesting; the restaurant is the joining of the City and culture of Barcelona with Toronto. Nearly every aspect of the Barsa Taberna design has an inspiration, a story and is unique to only Barsa Taberna. We learned the lights were specially designed to reflect its Spanish heritage and light up the place perfectly.  All of the furniture was custom made and the designs on the floor were specially created for Barsa.  The lovely patterned floors were inspired by the mosaics’ that you will find throughout Spain, specifically in the Palace Al Cazar in Sevilla (Southern Spain). All of this while keeping the historic building and condition in place. The building itself is a heritage building that’s been carefully restored. The renovation  has kept most of its 1800s identity of Toronto, which not only creates for a beautiful parallelism with the Spanish influence but also hints at the history and identity of early Toronto.
