On Tuesday November 5th, 2013, 20th Annual Disability Hall of Fame Inductees was held by the Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons (CFPDP) at The Fairmont Royal York Hotel. Around 300 guests came out to celebrate 5 honorable inductees who made an outstanding contribution in their fields.
Here is a list of inductees who were celebrated:
- Paralympian Stephanie Dixon who was the first Canadian woman in history to win five gold medals in a single Paralympic Games winning 19 medals throughout her career.
- Ramesh Ferris, who is a global leader in the battle to end polio. He hand-cycled more than 7,000 kilometres across Canada to raise money and awareness for global polio eradication, education and rehabilitation and provide humane support and rehabilitation for the survivors.
- Jerry and Annie Johnston who introduced Canada’s first program for disabled skiers and were instrumental in the growth of the sport in Canada.
- Founder, publisher, editor and guiding spirit of Abilities magazine connecting 80,000 readers across Canada, Raymond D. Cohen (posthumously)
- This year’s Lifetime Achievement recipient is David Crombie who always has time for disability issues, beginning with his Mayor’s Task Force on the Disabled, and then, for 20 years the selection committee chair for the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame and gifted MC for every presentation.

After guests enjoyed a delicious lunch, the award-giving ceremony started with a speech provided by CFPDP Chair, Honourable Vim Kochhar. After he presented the awards, each of the inductees made a touching short speech that made guests reconsider about the importance how to view people with a disability. The hall was filled with applause due to the inductees’ amazing speeches.

The event Donate & Learn was held at the Ted Rogers School of Management – Ryerson University this past Dec. 4th. A great spot for a seminar – this was a free event with a min. $20 donation (tax-deductible) to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto
Before the seminars began in the conference room, it was possible to donate money to Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Toronto by buying food and drinks or tickets for amazing prizes. Also at this time every company supporting the event had a booth where attendees could ask direct questions and learn a little bit more about the companies and their services. Perfect for networking and meeting other people interested in this passionate world of online marketing.
The event was definitely a success with over 450 attendees and more than $9,000 raised for Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Toronto.
All presentations were well created and very easy to follow. Some presentations where more interactive than others, but all of them where very inspirational. It was great to hear what companies like Bing, Go Daddy, Big3 and Green Lotto have to say about online marketing and it was exciting when they shared with the audience some great ideas to implement as an online business owner.
Definitely a great experience for a great cause.

We are proud to have assisted in this years planning of The Canadian Disability Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame provides permanent recognition of outstanding Canadians who have made extraordinary contributions to enriching the quality of life for people with physical disabilities. Founded by the CFPDP, this public exhibit was officially opened February 11, 1994 at Metro Hall, 55 John St., in downtown Toronto. A rededication ceremony was held there on November 20, 1996 when the exhibit moved to a more visible location. It is open to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Nominations to the Hall of Fame come from sources across Canada – community groups, private citizens, associations and organizations of and for people with physical disabilities. Nominees are chosen each year by the Hall of Fame’s Selection Board in the category of Builder, Achiever or Athlete. The inductees are individuals who truly have made a difference – those who have opened doors for people with disabilities in the areas of sports, education, employment and housing.
