Frugal Fashion Week

Is Cheap The New Chic? Frugal Fashion Week reveals 5 ways you can update your wardrobe on a budget.
1. Out with the old, in with the new.
First, figure out which items in your wardrobe don’t meet your fashionable standards! Go through your closet and set aside everything you don’t want, don’t need and don’t wear. Make-a-date to donate your unwanted, wearable items to a local thrift store – Goodwill, for example.
2. Check it twice.
Now that you’ve gotten rid of the old, it’s time to make room for the new! Make a list of the items you’d like to add to your wardrobe; include everything from shoes to suits.
3. Check your local listings.
Newspapers and fashion blogs are a mecca for frugal shoppers because they often list sales, trunk shows and sample sales that are happening across the GTA. Spread your frugal shopping sprees over several months and give yourself time to create a fab, frugal wardrobe!
4. How much?
Figure out your budget – how much are you willing to spend on a pair of shoes? Set aside cash – not credit – and map your shopping destinations. Start with the sales you found while conducting your search. Make plans to hit an outlet mall or two! Thrift, vintage and consignment store also provide amazing deals on gently-used (and sometimes never-worn) items!
5. Don’t be desperate.
Remember, you don’t have to buy everything just because you think you’re getting a good deal. Ask yourself if you really need 5 white tees? Or 8 pairs of jeans? A few key pieces that will last (or become fashion classics) or worth more than a closet full of clothes that still have the pricetags!
