Hop, Skip and Jump Into Toronto’s Emerging Social Networing Hubs

Located minutes away from the chaotic streets of downtown core, Liberty Village is an emerging community for socializing and networking just west of Toronto for businesses and residents. CityEvents and InLibertyVillage.com host events which enable locals to meet and mingle with each other. Continuing this successful trend- Locus 144, located in The Liberty Market during “Live It Up in Liberty”, held a successful community networking event on Thursday, July 28th showcasing their unique dinner menu and spirits lists.

The ambience of Locus 144 is very soothing, especially after a long day at work one would want tounwind and submerge themselves into the warm and cozy colour pallets of thedecor with lit candles welcoming you at the dinner table or lounge seating.

Lights were dimmed to perfection and the music just loud enough so people could still talk and not yell in each other’s ears. Locus also invited a local classic/pop singer to add some flavour to the already vibrant event and Lucia (www.luciaonline.com) sang for a set before the D.J took over playing into the late hours of a beautiful summer evening.

Shellac- My experience getting the 3 week Manicure!

About 3-4 weeks ago, I was feeling a little adventurous and decided to try out this new thing, Shellac, that everyone is talking about. A couple of my friends were talking about and raving about the way it left their nails looking. I’m not very fussy about nails, I will occasionally get color before an event but I like to keep it pretty natural. I originally went to the salon for a simple manicure and the lady convinced me to try out the “3 week” manicure. Since everyone was raving about this new thing “Shellac” I said, why not, it was only a difference of 10 dollars and if it’s going to strengthen my nails and not chip, then I guess it’s worth it.

The Process and application of Shellac:

I sat in the chair and the lady started working on the masterpiece. I was already thoroughly impressed by the manicure part. My nail buds looked tidy and my cuticles were perfectly clean. After seeing the manicure working out smoothly I relaxed a bit more and started to get more excited about this Shellac business. I picked the color I wanted, which was a rose pink and watched as my nail technician cleaned out her station and got ready. The shellac, to my surprise, came in a bottle that looks identical to nail polish. It is also applied just the same way as nail polish. After the first coat, I was asked to put my hands under a UV light, slightly confused by the process, I simply nodded and did what was asked of me. 2 coats later, my nails look fabulous. The color was glossy, and my nails didn’t look fake or thick. I was extremely impressed and happy with my decision.

Removal of Shellac:

As I went up to pay and got ready to head out, I asked the lady about the removal process. She said, you come back every 3 weeks for a fill or dip a cotton pad in nail polish remover and place in on top of the Shellac polish for 5-10 minutes to completely remove it. I think she noticed my stunned expression, which screamed, “I have no time for that.” She quickly said with a smile on her face that I can wrap a piece of aluminum wrap around my finger to hold the cotton pad down in order to do my work and not be distracted. I was a tad turned off about the removal process, but then again, I should have asked before making the commitment to this manicure.

Well, last night was the time to take off my Shellac. So I did exactly what was asked of me. And just like the lady described, after 10 minutes, the gel polish slid off my nails. There were still some pieces I had to pole with a tweezer but it was not bad at all. My nails are not damaged and my cuticles still look decent. I think this might be something to keep up, but with my crazy schedule, I’m not sure If I have the time to go back every three weeks for a fill.

My experience with Shellac was great! I was a little taken aback by the fact the I was not briefed on the removal process before the application began. But this was a simple miscommunication. The nail technician didn’t answer because I did not ask. All in all, during months with back-to-back events, I will definitely be considering the 3 week manicure. Have you ever tried Shellac before? Andrew Designs Night – Secreto de Verano

Andrew Richard Designs presented its Annual Industry Night Summer Secret last Wednesday. It was a great event and showcased some amazing talent for the event-planning industry. We were lucky enough to make guest list and got to sample a variety of food and drinks all night thanks to partners like Moët & Chandon, Belvedere Vodka as well as many other terrific catering companies in Toronto like 10tation catering, Encore Catering or Malbec Restaurant. Everything was delicious!

From decadent ice creams provided by Origin and Colborne Lane to sliders, ravioli and salmon, everything was delicious and perfected complemented. I particularly enjoyed the wines from Wines of Argentina, Chateau La Garde and Andre Lurton and the champagne from Moët & Chandon was absolutely delicious! The rest of my friends had a great night drinking beers and sipping on Belvedere Vodka cocktails made by the fabulous bartenders of R.E.D.

All this, coupled with sensual Argentinean tango and Brasilian samba, topped with an impressive show of Brazillian martial arts, it made for a riveting event!

Apart from the standout food, beverage and entertainment, the evening did a wonderful job at showcasing the venue. It was beautifully decorated and the atmosphere was perfect. It can definitely be adapted to

suit a variety of different themes and functions. The two storeys and patio create distinctly different spaces but has enough flow and cohesion to make for one great party! Definitely a terrific place to host an event if you have more than 400 attendees. The possibilities are endless!

La Société Opening

I’ve always thought that someone should open up a restaurant right on Bloor St. – they’ll be perfectly poised to scoop up all the tired shoppers shopping on Yorkville. Turns out I wasn’t alone on that intuition.

La Société opened last week on 131 Bloor St. W. and when I attended the invitation-only opening on Tuesday, I found myself quite taken with the decor. The stained-glass ceiling was gorgeous and I loved the cafe style woven chairs. I saw quite a few city philanthropists and key restaurant and club owners in Toronto. Society photographer George Pimmental photographed the event.

Great place and atmostphere – a wonderful addition to the INK Entertainment family alongside other great venues such as Ultra, Ame, Guvernment etc. I’m really looking forward to going back and trying the seafood bar and hanging out on the largest patio at Bay and Bloor!

Dolce Social Ballroom

We recently introduced you to the hottest patios in Toronto. With delectable cuisine, incredible music and the best people in Toronto, the patios we highlighted will absolutely live up to hype this summer.

One of the patios, Dolce Social Ballroom, opened recently and we were there. Located just at the corner of King St. W. and Bathurst Ave., Dolce, as it is affectionately known, opened its patio in coordination with some of the youngest and hottest promotion companies out there: Lyme Productions and NuVibe. Between the crowds each company brought and the atmosphere of the natural paneling and white booths, the patio opening was an incredible event.

And we all know that King St. W. nightlife has always been above the standard. Small enough to be intimate but with the opportunity to share a drink with some amazing people from this great city, Dolce’s patio left no room for disappointment.

On the second floor of 647 King St. W., the streets below seemed miles away. La Dolce Vita, the beautiful life that is Dolce Social Ballroom promises to be an amazing patio this summer.
