Deb Lewis Speaks to Toronto Don Valley Rotary

Deb Lewis - Rotary International

In his inauguration speech Barack Obama spoke to the citizens of the world and reminded us that we each have a responsibility to the wider community. That is to look after those less fortunate than ourselves.

So how do we go about doing just that?  How can one person’s actions make a difference to those around us who are in need? That’s a truly difficult assignment but, if a group of like-minded people can band together and put their individual talents and imagination together, who knows what could happen?

Such a group of people already exists and has in fact existed for over 100 years. That organization is called ROTARY and is open to your membership. The local club “Toronto Don Valley” meets every Thursday morning for a mix of fellowship, sustenance in the form of a light breakfast, and most important of all to hear ideas for the betterment of our world that we can put into action.

On Thursday, March 4th 2010 Deborah Lewis, CMP, and CEO of CityEvents was asked to speak to the members of the “ Toronto Don Valley” Rotary at their weekly meeting. She gave insight and guidance on the process of planning and promoting a non-profit event in the community. As well as some helpful tips and tricks on the staging of the event itself.Deborah is tirelessly committed to her community. She was a mentor with the TRIDEC mentoring program, a previous Rotary member, and remained on the fund-raising committee for the New Leaders of Sunnybrook Foundation for the past 10 years. Currently she works on The Fireball for Sheena’s Place.

On Wednesday March 3, 2010 Gary Puppa represented ePixome on CBC’s hit show Dragons’ Den.  Aspiring entrepreneurs face five multi-millionaires in hopes of generating investment. Gary pitched his business concept; ePixome to the Canadian business moguls who have the cash and know-how to launch businesses to the big leagues.

Gary Puppa, President and founder of ePixome, started his company in 2000. EPixome centers around the idea of using digital media marketing systems in the form of photos & videos. ePixome provides digital photographs for people at events. This allows a shared experience where information and promotions can utilize social networking sites such as Myspace, Twitter and Facebook.

FastLane Events
FastLane’s February event was beauty themed, titled Makeover Your Business with FastLane. The idea was for attendee’s to take the time to re-energize their look while simultaneously  re-energizing their business network.

FastLane is a themed networking event that connects young professionals from across the GTA. It is beneficial in numerous ways from meeting new contacts, to increasing your business network and giving access to a number of great vendors.

Held at Dermalogica’s head office on King West, this beautiful venue played host to a variety of vendors who primped and polished guests throughout the night.

The skin experts at Dermalogica had guests take it all off! Cleansing their faces, The Microzone Station took care of targeted treatments, then it was on to the Skin Bar to have a diagnosis for all those winter skin issues. Careful not to forget the gentleman, a special SHAVE station gave men insight into the world of premium shaving products.

A big hit was the Massage on Wheels/ Element oxygen collaboration premiering at Makeover Your Business. This allowed guests to take a moment to relax with a ten minute mini massage – complimented perfectly by deep breaths of pure oxygen. Talk about re-energizing!

Just Blo Me! gave attendee’s a chuckle and some sexy hair. Stylists from the recently opened Blo, Blow Dry Bar on King West,  had their flat and curling irons on full heat, providing the ladies with bouncy and beautiful curls.

Amongst the others was Anthony Parazo, of Anthony Parazo photography. Each guest was given the opportunity to pose for a professional head shot after having their makeovers. These photo’s are intended for use on online professional networking sites such as twitter, Facebook and Linkedin.

Wine FastLane Networking Toronto
A night of good food, complimentary wine (from Oyster Bay – New Zealand’s finest!) and music set the atmosphere for great networking! Two speed networking sessions were re-introduced and were the talk of the night. It is a great way to introduce yourself and meet new contacts when coming to an event such as this one on your own. Back by popular demand, our next FastLane event will feature a Speed Networking session.
