The 5 To Watch is in partnership with Globe and Mail to recognize Canada’s Sports Business leaders under 40 years old. George Brown’s School of Sport and Event Marketing staff and alumni are the creators of this event/award which launched in 2013. It’s a “must-attend” event where you get to network with industry professionals, enjoy amazing food, learn from keynote speeches, and join the after party.
The proceeds from the event will be put towards the George Brown College Foundation which grants awards and bursaries to individuals at the George Brown’s Centre for Business.
This year the Canada’s Sports Marketing Business Award will be at the Waterfront Campus of George Brown College. Business professionals will gather to celebrate the winners on Thursday, June 22, 2017.

ANOKHI MEDIA’s 12 Anniversary Event – Post-Event Story

On Saturday March 28th, ANOKHI Media celebrated its 12th anniversary event in association with Johnnie Walker. The highly anticipated event was held at Toronto’s Fairmont Royal York, where hundreds gathered to celebrate trailblazing celebrities, honorees, performers, and activists within the South Asian community.
Among the festivities, there was a Red Carpet Celebrity Reception, where the likes of International Actor, Rahul Khanna, Legendary Musical Artist, Manj Musik Legendary Music Producer, Rishi Rich, Actress & Singer, Karen David, Actor, Vinay Virmani Singer-Songwriter, Zameer Rizvi and Stand-Up Comedian, Danish Anwar (and MUCH more!) posed with fans and kept ANOKHI Pulse TV and several other media outlets in action.
Guests enjoyed a scrumptious fusion styled 3-course meal while Buddha bar music played in the background in the Concert Hall.
The Awards-Fashion-Entertainment show was the highlight of the night as South Asian stars graced the stage to accept an array of awards and live performances to entertain the crowd. JUNO Nominated Alysha Brilla performed her latest hits and was presented with the Musical Artist of the Year award.
Celebrity fashion designer Archana Kochhar showcased an exclusive runway show for the first time in North America for Anokhi guests that was full glitz and glam!
Special to this year, ANOKHI Media unveiled and released ‘THE ANOKHI LIST 2015’ – a beautiful coffee table book to celebrate the regional, national and international success stories of some of today’s more prolific South Asian personalities. Only 2,500 copies were produced and guests left the event with the coffee table book and a luxurious gift bag from L’Oreal Paris.
To end the night, guests partied at the After Party with all the special guests and celebrities. The ANOKHI Media’s 12th anniversary event was a great success and CityEvents was honoured to be a partner in the extensive planning process and execution of the event.

THCC Vision Showcase Awards 2014

Another unforgettable celebration of The THCC VISION Showcase Award 2014, The night of October 16th took place one of the most important celebration for the Hispanic Community in Toronto.
Five categories Awards, celebrates Canadian Hispanic business leaders in Toronto has achieved excellence in their field, making a positive impact on the community.
About 200 people attended the event and enjoyed a great night host by the Toronto Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
The Celebration took place in the beautiful venue of Glenn Gould Studio, CBC.
30 Businesses and Entrepreneurs were nominees in the following categories: Emerging Entrepreneur, Entrepreneur, Small Business, Arts & Culture, and Career Achievement Award.
This business will be the best, embodying all of the highest attributes of entrepreneurship and community involvement.
Exquisite food was provided by Santo Pecado, an authentic mexican catering in Toronto.
This night was presented by an amazing group of sponsors as- Scotiabank, City of Toronto. Cusco, Unikron, Copa Airlines, Schible, CityEvents, Munera, Pina Ruso, Clarkhuot, Lula Lounge.

CFPDP to induct four NEW members into the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame!

After celebrating the Canadian Disability Hall of Fame’s 20th anniversary last year, CFPDP is excited to hold yet another induction ceremony on November 3, 2014. Honourable David Crombie, Chair, Canadian Disability Hall of Fame and Honourable Vim Kochhar, CFPDP Chair will welcome four new members into the fold at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Concert Hall in Toronto.
Each year, it gives CityEvents great pleasure to assist CFPDP in the planning of this awards ceremony and witness many outstanding Canadians inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The Selection Board has chosen the following inductees in the categories of Builder, Achiever or Athlete. These individuals have been selected because they have truly made a difference for people with disabilities.
- Sudarshan Gautam, Achiever – First armless person to climb the summit of Mount Everest without the use of prosthetics.
- Mark Wafer, Builder – As a Tim Hortons franchisee, Wafer has hired nearly 100 people with disabilities in competitively paid positions and developed an influential case mode for inclusive hiring practices.
- Elisabeth Walker-Young, Achiever – Four-time Paralympic swimmer and multi-medalist Walker-Young was recently named Team Canada’s Chef de Mission for the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto.
- Chris Williamson, Athlete – Visually impaired athlete and Markham, Ont. Native Williamson is one of the world’s most decorated para-alpine racers.
Maureen Sabia, Chairman, Canadian Tire Corp. will be the keynote speaker this year. CFPDP is expecting an incredible turn out with over 500 guests registered for the event.
The Hall of Fame, located at both the former Metro Hall and the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, is open to the public around the clock. Nominations come from sources across Canada, including community groups, private citizens, associations and organizations of and for people with physical disabilities.

Canadian Helen Keller Centre Awards

In conjunction with the Canadian Foundation for Physically Disabled Persons, CHKC held the Annual CHKC Awards Dinner on April 15th at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel to honour individuals who have made outstanding achievements and contributions to the disability of deaf-blindness, and to raise much needed funds to operate the centre.
Guest Speaker: The Honourable Ted McMeekin, Minister of Community and Social Services
George Brown College will accept the 2014 Canadian Helen Keller Centre Award for their exceptional community service and training.
Distinguished guests of the luncheon include: Lieutenant Governor David, C. Onley, Ruth Ann Onley,Cindy Accardi Executive Director Rotary Cheshire Homes & Canadian Helen Keller Centre, John Rafferty CEO, CNIB, President & CEO of ICIC Bank of Canada, Sriram Lyer, Honourable Vim Kochhar and Vice-Chairman & COO of Scotiabank Sabi Marwah.
